In Australia, bronze works well for outdoor sculpture because it is corrosion-resistant and weather-resistant. Larger sculptures can be supported by bronze because it is a very robust material as well. The lovely golden hue of bronze statues won’t deteriorate with time. A patina, which is forced oxidisation produced by carefully regulated chemical and thermal processes, can be applied to bronze sculptures as well. This considerably reduces maintenance requirements while also enhancing the sculpture’s longevity. Many monumental works throughout history have been created using this medium.

The beauty of stainless steel is that it does not rust and strongly resists degradation. There are different grades of stainless steel, for instance, a 304-grade is used on many art features, but where items are to be placed either in gardens or public places near the coast, 316-grade stainless steel is often recommended as it is even more resistant.
