Morgan Shimeld, a Sydney based sculptor, is one of Australia’s most celebrated new artists. Having first trained in glass – he graduated from the University of Sydney in 2000 with a Bachelor of Visual Arts – Shimeld later began working with bronze and steel, crafting a distinctive body of work characterised by attention to structure and form. His work is concerned with aesthetic and theoretical concepts of modernist architecture and design, often playing with the viewer’s perception of depth and sense of density.
Shimeld has been a finalist in a number of prestigious art prizes and had four solo exhibitions in Sydney. His work has been sought by many private collectors and acquired by Artbank Australia.
