Fonofale McCarthy was born in Samoa, an independent island nation in the South Pacific. He was raised and herald from the villages of To’omatagi, Magiagi and Salani,. He immigrated to Australia in 1998 and settled in Melbourne and Sydney. He displayed an aptitude for abstract sculptural art forms, emphasize clean simplicity curves and geometrical lines that balance forms with symbolic of representational motifs, myths and patterns. He used primarily wood, stone, steel and unstretched canvas, using oil and acrylic. His artwork has been included in private and public art collections and major exhibitions in Europe, America, South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. Fonofale is a carver, painter, sculptor and multi-media artist and independent curator. Graduated with a Diploma of Fine Art in Maori, Pacific and Indigenous Arts from Te Wanaga O Aotearoa and a post-grad degree of art and design from AUT University. A past recipients of scholar and excellence arts awards. He is currently residing in Sydney and working around Australia.
