Koichi Ishino immigrated to Australia in 2009 and now lives and works in Gosford, NSW. Koichi graduated from Kyoto City University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1976 and has been a full time artist for over 25 years. Koichi has participated in Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi and Cottelsoe regularly since 2001 and was awarded the Waverley Council Mayor’s Prize, 2009.
Koichi has gained an international reputation as an artist. He has completed numerous significant public international commissions and has been the recipient of numerous prizes including the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art Award (1997) and the Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art Award (1995).Koichi’s work is characterized by smooth mirror surfaces of stainless steel paired with stone. Throughout his career, Koichi has been developing original inlay techniques, and in his works, materials of completely different qualities come together as one fabricated form.
