Constructing rafts, canoes and a catamaran beside the Bielersee -Switzerland with my father developed my love for the water and curiosity for the wider world.
After studying engineering and working in watch making, I needed a change. Five Swiss winters in a tin shed and my yacht “L’Epervier” was finally launched into the Rhine. In the Mediterranean I erected rigging, taught myself ocean sailing and left Europe.
What an indescribable adventure it was, the whales the stars, the sunsets as company. I sailed into Sydney in October 1976.
Swell sculpture reflects the contradictory nature of my relationship with the sea and the pull it has exerted on me to follow less trodden paths.
