Jacques Le Bescond Sculpture

Jacques LE BESCOND (Caen native born in 1945) took up sculpting at a very young age. His mentorship by a craftsman, paired with a keen interest in woodwork were both pivotal points in his decision to attend l’Ecole Bulle, where he developed his skills in drawing and design. Widely recognized, LE BESCOND’s creative pieces vary
greatly in mediums including medieval sculptures, church restoration, castles, furniture garnishing, polychrome totems, and sculptured ship bows. In addition, he collaborates with several decorators and architects. It is with the same passion that fueled his initial works that inspired him to begin sculpting with both marble and
bronze, allowing the intensity and balance of his prior pieces to be preserved in the later life-sized sculptures. Inspired by the marble works of MYTORAÏ as well as pieces by ZADKINE, MOORE, LYNN CHADWICK and CHILLIDA, LE BESCOND ventures enthusiastically into the possibilities of several different techniques, refusing to confne himself to the shackles of a single medium. While the inspiration for his pieces differ, his work is always built from ongoing research and a desire to convey authentic elegance and serenity. Jacques LE BESCOND has become a recognized artist who produces works of a distinct sleek style. Although
he is a contemporary artist, LE BESCOND’s work is based on the tradition of classical masterpieces. His monumental face profles are reminiscent of Greek antiquities, as well as the mighty heads of Easter Island. Amongst his many themes of inspiration, two are prevalent: the couple as well as a tribute to the imagination of men through sculpted literature. He views this imagination as both creative and contemplative, both being a source of balance and innate happiness of mankind.
