Bronze Horse Sculpture
60x52x15cm

sandstone plinth
limited editions

Raised on a riding school, the Sculptor Helena’s formative years were shaped by a deep, lived connection with horses, beings of immense power, freedom, and intuitive presence. That relationship lives through the Horse Series, a body of work that pays homage not only to the animal’s physical grandeur but to its raw, spiritual essence.

These sculptures are not literal renderings. Fragmented forms and open spaces allow light and shadow to pass through, creating a sense of motion and spirit. In these works, textured bronze embodies an energy while seeming to dissolve at the edges, giving the horse a ghost-like, almost elemental presence. The rough stone base further grounds the creature in nature, reinforcing its primal energy and connection to earth.

Each sculpture bears the name of a real horse from the artist’s childhood, transforming every piece into a personal tribute and a sculptural memory. The Horse Series becomes a bridge between past and present, between physical form and the intangible wildness that lives within.’

Artist sculptor
Helena Lillywhite

Taking her art from life and nature, Helena breaks down forms simplifying and playing with the uses of light and shadows. Sometimes staying true to a likeness, which is always the starting point, but sometimes her work will take on a much more abstract nature. Often she uses her experience as a graphic designer to create works with a digital starting point using flat plains that are then assembled into a 3d structure.

Originally from the UK, Helena now resides and works in Sydney. Recently she has been working alongside Sculptor John Gardner. One piece that she was recently involved in was a commissioned 7 foot high cast bronze tree. They are presently collaborating on various other projects, as well as creating pieces individually.
