Ben Fasham

Ben’s artistic background is practical and environmental.  This has arisen from a lifelong interaction with many of the foremost contemporary Australian sculptors.  This influence inspired Ben in 1994 to create an aluminium maquette in his VCE Art class.  Many years later in 2007, this maquette, titled ‘Conversation’ reignited his passion with fabricating sculpture and became his first large scale piece with an overall height of six meters.  This sculpture was a finalist in the The Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award in 2008 at Werribee Park, and can now be found at Armstrong Creek in the Warralily Development.

From his initial success Ben began to explore his own sculpture practice and developed a series of maquettes which were entered into various Sculpture Exhibitions.  Materials, texture and balance are the inspiration for his work.  Since then he has been selected for major exhibitions including Sculpture by Sea, Montalto Sculpture Prize, Yering Station Sculpture Exhibition, Deakin University Contemporary Sculpture Award, Sculpture on Clyde, Artentwine Sculpture Biennial and others.

In 2011 Ben exhibited at Sculptures by the Sea Bondi, and was awarded the Emerging Sculptor Mentor Program which was supported by the Clitheroe Foundation.  This allowed Ben to work with a mentor to further develop his art practice in a new direction.  During this period Ben was awarded his first Public Art Commission, which resulted in him creating a site specific artwork for the Dingley Village Anzac Memorial.

Over the last ten years Ben has developed an extensive collection of work showing great development with his designs.  In 2019 Ben was challenged to create a kinetic sculpture for Sculpture in Motion, Art in the Vines at Hanging Rock.  This has now added another dimension to his work.

His works and commissions can be found in a number of collections, which include Shoreham Park, Dingley Community Centre, St Marks Catholic Primary School, Denman Prospect and most recently Elgee Park.  Ben’s sculptures are proudly displayed in many private collections throughout Australia.
