Adelaide Sculptors in Our Collection
Greg Johns is one of Australia’s best-known contemporary sculptors. Based in Adelaide, he has been making sculpture for public spaces since graduating from the South Australian School of Art in 1978, and his large corten works are held in collections around the world. Astra Parker is an Adelaide-based sculptor who uses steel to create remarkably organic forms inspired by regeneration and life cycles.
Choosing Sculpture for Adelaide Conditions
Hot, dry summers: Adelaide’s climate suits corten steel particularly well. It weathers to a stable, rich rust finish, and in dry conditions there is very little run-off once the patina has formed. It is a natural fit for the Adelaide Hills, Barossa and McLaren Vale estates and wineries.
Coastal suburbs: from Glenelg and Brighton to the Fleurieu coast, choose bronze garden statues or 316 (marine) grade outdoor stainless steel sculpture for salt air.
Heat: bronze, corten and stainless hold their finish in extreme heat without fading or cracking. Dark patinas and corten can get hot to the touch in full summer sun, which is worth considering where children play.
Delivery and Installation in Adelaide and SA
Freight is quoted by size, weight and destination. Tabletop works travel by courier. Garden works of 1 to 2 metres are crated and sent by road freight.
