Australian Artist // Glass sculptor

Sallie Portnoy is a Sydney based artist, originally from mid-West Canada. She works mainly in cast glass lead crystal to create figurative sculptures, but has also been known to work in clay, bronze, polystyrene, glass mosaic and stainless steel. Her interest is in human nature, form and psychology, as well as mysticism, ritual, and the mysteries of life. She travels regularly between Australia and North America, often finding inspiration as she goes. Portnoy also teaches glass and ceramics workshops as a welcome distraction from her solo practice.

Portnoy is prolific in her work and exhibits regularly, both nationally and internationally. To date, she has had thirteen solo shows, and has been featured in several group exhibitions a year since the early 1980s. She has won numerous awards and commissions for public artworks.
